Originally founded in 1948 as a service company for cinemas around Munich, Kinoton grew to be one of the largest and most popular designers, manufacturers and distributors of cinema equipment around the world.

Kinoton are notable for marketing the platter/non-rewind film transport system after its invention by Willi Burth, and for its electronically controlled “E” range of projectors that do not use a mechanical maltese cross.
